DIGGING FOR FIRE

On ?¨Shotgun Silence,?Æ the A-side of their debut 7-inch release for Lather Records, Graves Brothers Deluxe singer-bassist Stoo Odom (Thin White Rope, Stumpgrinders) growls, whines, and otherwise menacingly conttorts his voice to a jangly yet driving tune. Their current lineup includes guitarist Dan Ehart, drummer Jozef Becker (Thin White Rope, Loud Family), and guitarist Amr Toppozada. Originally from New Orleans, Odom supplants typical boy-meets-girl lyric fodder with an edgy bayou unrest. B-side ?¨Dirty Blue?Æ details jumping off the tallest building in prewar Hattiesburg, Miss. GBD are different enough to be good for you. The Smarties and Beatrice Nine open. 10 p.m., Edinburgh Castle, 950 Geary, S.F. Call for price. (415) 885-4074.
